Pachanga

Pachanga, Portuguese for "party," was the place to be this weekend for all Brandeis students, whether International or American. Whatever language you say it in, this Pachanga was a success. Hosted in Levin Ballroom, Pachanga - sponsored by the International Club - welcomed hundreds of students, in their party attire, ready to dance.

Doors opened at 10 p.m., but entrance lines were strong for hours. Thanks in part to good publicity, attendance was unusually high even for the first Pachanga of the year. The International Club members and cops greeted guests at the door. Security was tight and BEMCo was ready to attend to any illnesses which may strike partygoers.

For first-years, this was not only their first Pachanga, but also their first registered Brandeis party. It was a chance for them to spend time with their peers outside the classroom and their hallways. They soon realized that although they arrived with a small number of friends, they left with a group of people they met that night. Ethan Pransky '07 remarked, "Pachanga was not what I expected. It was awesome."

As returning students arrived fashionably late, they had no problem getting into the swing of things. They tried to catch the glow sticks that the International club members were throwing from the balcony, and danced to a variety of music. Music ranged from European techno to Turkish Kiss to 50 Cent. No matter what songs were playing, the dance floor was extremely crowded. Pachanga was a smooth experience for everyone. The International Club will host the next Pachanga before winter break. As one sophomore commented, "The next Pachanga has a hard act to follow."
